The Soprintendenza per i Beni Architettonici e per il Paesaggio (Commission for the Architectural and Landscape Heritage) for the Provinces of Florence, Pistoia and Prato is a peripheral organ of the Ministero per i Beni e le Attività Culturali (Ministry of Culture) with the institutional task of protecting, conserving and valorising the architectural and landscape heritage in the territory of competence.
This activity is performed pursuant to the Codice dei Beni Culturali e del Paesaggio (Cultural Heritage and Landscape Code, Legislative Decree 42/2004) within the ambit of the cultural heritage belonging to the State, the Regions, public bodies and institutions, as well as non-profit private legal entities.
With a view to improving relations between users and the authorities, the aim of the website is to illustrate the more interesting aspects of the relevant legislation, and the objectives and operational criteria that govern the activities of the Soprintendenza. The idea is to provide a general picture and a tool for users to find their bearings in a very complex discipline so that they can access the procedures and services on offer.
